P R O M

Last Thursday, I had my prom (or debs as they call it in every other county it seems), which is obviously a huge event at the end of secondary school. I waited months for this day, much like my other school companions (even the boys were excited about their suits).

Dress: Ariella London
Shoes: ASOS

Hair & makeup fabulously done at a local salon!

I had a fabulous night with my friends at school, and felt like a princess! I felt even more like a princess, Cinderella to be exact, when I lost one of my shoes at the end of the night. Although I am yet to have my prince charming to give it back to me....

I hope you enjoyed this post! I'll chat to you next week with a more Christmassy post!

Christmas Gift Guide 2015

Today, I am here with my second post in my Christmas series, whish is a Christmas gift guide for him and for her! I have taken inspiration from what I'm getting my friends and family this year, and I hope perhaps you gain some inspiration also.

                                  HIM

I know extremely well how difficult it is to buy gifts for my dad and my brother! The first thing is a mug, which will probably not apply to the majority of you, but as my brother is studying geology I thought it would be a great (and funny) gift for him! It can be something relevant to what they like or find funny, and proves to be quite a thoughtful yet servicable gift.

The next thing is a portable power bank which is €6 from Penneys. This is a great gift for anyone really, as basically everyone has a smart phone that usually uses battery when they're being used out of the house.

The next thing is a Carluccio cookbook (€14.99 Easons)! This is a great gift for dads or especially for brothers (or sisters) who are off at uni and living away from home.  I know this would be especially useful for my brother.

The last thing is slippers, which is an extremely simple gift, but everyone needs slippers! These are €15 from Littlewoods, but obviously there are far cheaper ones in the likes of Primark and Dunnes.

                                          HER

The first thing for her is a Santa Lush bathbomb. This is a really universal gift for your mam, sister or friends. Most bathbombs are about €5, which may not be the cheapest but sure are worth it!

The next thing is slightly pricier at €28.99, which is a brush set from Real Techniques. I swear by these brushes, and I know my friends and mam do too.

The next thing which is a nice gift is a notebook. This one is £6 from Urban Outfitters, but you can really get them anywhere in shops like Penneys or Tiger, where they're budget friendly and lovely gifts all the same.

The final thing is a No7 Cleansing Brush Gift Set €43.50

Christmas Wishlist

First of all, where have I been?

I'm in my final year of secondary school, and for my Christmas result, we've been doing assessments over the last three months, which has proved stressful and extremely time consuming!

My last two tests are this week, which means hopefully more time to study to more of a schedule, and actually more time to blog!

Today I have my Christmas wishlist, and I know, it's perhaps a tad early (although December is tomorrow) to start my Christmas series, but why not! The season is short after all.

First thing on my wishlist is the Blank Canvas cream contour palette. I have been using a powder for my contour, but my friend has this one and I feel it gives a lot more definition.

The next thing is a burgundy midi skirt from Missguided. I've been eyeing this skirt up for a while, and I think it will be fab for casual or formal wear.

I would also love the new album 'Purpose' by Justin Bieber. His new songs have been so catchy lately, and I'm not ashamed to say I love all of the songs I've heard!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is definitely at the top of my book list! I've wanted this for a while but haven't really been able to find it anywhere!

The final thing on this wish list is a palette from Morphe. The palette has lots of colours and seeing as I want to extend my eyeshadow skills, this palette will definitely help.

I hope you enjoyed this post and that perhaps it gave you inspiration for your own wish list or for another person!

Until next time,
Kate

Tis the Season....Right?

So, I know it's only the beginning of November, but everything, everywhere is screaming Christmas. And, honestly, I'm actually excited about it! Don't get me wrong, I'm still into my fall colors for fashion, but I am starting to get into the Christmas spirit. My son is over a year old now, and I think that is the biggest factor in my excitement this year. I can't wait to see him digging in all of the Christmas decorations, wearing his new Christmas pajamas (and yes, I already have a set for him), and tearing into his Christmas presents. Santa Claus has even started buying presents for him (he's on top of it this year)!

So, in the spirit of Christmas, I have posted a few of my favorite Pinterest pictures below for Christmas decorations. How do you plan on decorating your home this Christmas?

marshmallow snow garland and other handmade holiday garland ideas:

I think cotton balls might be a better idea for my home, but I love the look of this as a hanging centerpiece.

This front porch is to die for.  My husband and I recently moved, and there are lots of pine trees in our yard.  I'm thinking of collecting the pinecones and attempting something like this.  I may also hit up Homegoods to see if they have anything to help.

Love this idea!:

I'm loving this classic-looking mailbox with winter decor.  Because, you know, the mailbox is cold and needs some warmth.  ;)

Never thought of decorating the bottom - I like this because it leaves the handrail open for hands:

I love a decorated staircase during the Christmas season, however I have never thought of using the bottom of the railing instead of the top.  Very neat idea.

.:

This would look great with a black or gold window pane and coordinating bow and bells.

names in gold sharpie... Next year:

I don't know about you, but I hate putting tags on presents.  I think it's either laziness, or my tags never look great attached.  However, I thought writing on the actual package is a cute alternative and easy to do.  I have actually done this before and love the ease.

A Little Lace

So being as disorganised and busy as I am, I have not blogged in a few weeks (shame on me!). Unfortunately some things have been taking place in life which meant that even school had to be put aside, but I'm now back on track and ready to blog!

Since I blogged last, I found out that I am actually a finalist in The Blog Awards Ireland! I'm absolutely over the moon and even though I can't attend the finals in the Tivoli Theatre, I'm still so honoured to have made it to the final! Thank you to anyone who voted for me. :)

Today, I have an OOTD! I am hoping that I can blog OOTD's more frequently as they are definitely one of my favourite blog posts to write and edit.

Top: Brandy Melville
Halter Bra: Urban Outfitters
Ripped Jeans: Topshop (Joni jeans)

I wore this outfit a few weeks back to a friends birthday party and I loved it! I got the halter bra for my birthday (totally was inspired by MissMeghanMakeup to get one) and immediately knew that this green top from Brandy would be the best top to show it off.

The bra itself is so comfortable. It feels moreso like a bralette, but still has the hooks like a normal bra at the back. I feel that the lace halter gives it a cooler vibe and makes me proud to show my bra straps! I love the contrast also between the dark green and the black lace.

I of course had to pair the outfit with a pair of ripped Joni jeans. I swear I live in this style of jeans.
Overall, this outfit was so comfortable. and I'll definitely be an outfit repeater because I love it so much.

See you in my next blogpost,

Kate x

Lincoln Hayes Marlowe-Birth Story

On August 24th, 2014, my husband and I were planning to wait at least three weeks before we met our sweet baby boy.  We attended a birthday party for his step-mom at his dad's house.  We went swimming and I remember them picking on me because I wasn't putting much effort into hitting the big beach ball around the pool.  I was like, look, I am not too far away from my due date and I am not even trying to do all of that physical activity!  We went home after a long, fun day in the sun.  The next morning, shortly after 3 AM, I started having painful contractions.  I kind of ignored them for a few minutes (trying not to make something out of nothing), and they got a little more painful.  Now these weren't excruciatingly painful, just painful.  So I remember that my doctor told me at 37 weeks, he would not stop delivery, and that if I started having contractions less than 5 minutes apart, I should go to the hospital.  So I thought, I should start timing my contractions.  I pulled out my phone and kept a record on my inkpad app and here they were:  3:33AM, 3:39, 3:45, 3:46, 3:53, 3:58, 4:02, 4:05, 4:06, 4:12, 4:14, 4:17 and 4:21.  It was then that I decided, well, if I'm going to have a baby, I need to at least wash my hair.  I know that might sound crazy, but y'all, I had not washed my hair from the previous pool day and it was nasty.  So I got out of bed, went to use the bathroom, and there was blood.  I knew, being pregnant and all, that blood either meant something bad, or that I was having a baby.  Either way, I needed to go to the hospital (washing my hair was out of the question at this point).  I ran out of the bathroom, and I yelled (not screaming, but loudly speaking) to Justin, "Justin, Justin!".  He looked at me, all dazed and confused.  I said, "I'm bleeding, we need to go to the hospital."  He jumped out of bed, took a second to let things register, and we started getting ready to go.  I put on my black Coastal (Coastal Carolina University) sweatpants, and my black Coastal t-shirt.  Justin threw on some clothes and grabbed my overnight bag.  I told him to go ahead and get the carseat (which he did not install because he arrogantly told me we had plenty of time to do it) and baby's bag.  He informed me that he would get the carseat and baby bag IF I was having a baby.  He didn't really believe that I was.  I think he thought I was making things out to be more than they were.  So we get in the car and drive to the hospital.  It took us about 3 or 4 minutes to get there.  We lived really close.  We were there at about 4:30ish.  I'm having contractions the whole time.  He drops me off at the door to go inside and he parks the truck.  I go up to the desk at the emergency room and tell them that I am having contractions and that I might be having a baby.  At this point, I'm expecting them to get all nervous and rush me to a room to get this thing checked out.  No.  Not what happens.  The first thing they did was take me to a room to get all of my information, such as my name, DOB, address, insurance information, etc.  While they were making sure I had insurance and they would get paid, a lady came with a wheelchair and made me sit in it.  I told her that I could walk and that I was fine, but she wouldn't let me.  Apparently, they don't take chances at this hospital (I may make several jokes about the hospital throughout this whole story, but I really loved my experience there, so please take it lightheartedly).  She then wheeled me up to a small room on the second floor where they deliver babies.  This whole time, I'm having contractions, but my husband and I are carrying on conversations with everyone.  We like to have fun (especially when we're nervous), so much of the conversation is joking and cutting up.  In this small room, two nurses start hooking me up to things to monitor me and the baby.  One of the nurses then wanted to check to see if I was dilated.  IF I was dilated.  When she checked me, it was very uncomfortable.  Probably one of the most uncomfortable things I experienced while I was there.  She looked at me and said, "You're 5 centimeters dilated!"  Justin said, "What does that mean?"  He was waiting to find out when he should call our parents to get them here.  He didn't want to do so until he knew we were having a baby.  At that point, she turned and looked at him and said, "You're having a baby!"  He looked at me and said, "So I should make the call?" And I said yes, make the call.  So he called the parents and told them I was in labor and we were going to have a baby!  The nurses told me with the way we were all talking, laughing, carrying on, etc., that they thought they were actually going to be sending me home.  They didn't think I was in labor.  At this point, they sent me to an actual room.  The room was pretty large.  They hooked me up to machines to monitor my contractions and the baby's heartbeat.  By this point, I was 7 centimeters dilated.  I was moving along pretty quickly.  My mama, daddy and step-mother live an hour away, but it felt like they were by my side in no time.  They were at the hospital by 6.  My mother-in-law was a good bit away visiting friends, but arrived as fast as she could.  My father-in-law and his wife came a little later.  I have to note, too, that everyone looked great!  I looked like poo, because, of course, I had not washed my hair, nor did I have makeup on.  But everyone else looked fabulous. I was impressed, because it was so early in the morning.  I remember everyone in the room, talking about when they thought the baby would come....9 something, 10 something, etc.  I was certain I wanted an epidural, so by the time they got to me with one, I was 8.5 centimeters dilated.  Before I make my next statement, I would just like to say that every woman is different and every woman has different experiences.  With that being said, I would like to say that my contractions weren't as painful as I thought they would be.  At 8.5 centimeters dilated, I was pushing through them.  Don't get me wrong, they were painful, but they weren't gut-wrenching, screaming-painful.  So with how quickly things were moving along, I was sure we were going to have our baby soon.  Not.  9 something passed, 10 something passed, etc.  The doctor had already decided to go into the office at this point and work, waiting on a call when I got to 10 centimeters.  This made me nervous because I really wanted my doctor to deliver my baby (not one of the other ones), and I know how traffic is on 501.  Needless to say, when it was time to push my sweet boy out, he was there in no time.  Thinking back, I wonder if he took some secret road that no one else knows about, because he got there pretty fast.  Anyway, 11 something passed, 12 something passed.  During this time, my contractions started getting closer and closer together.  At one point, the nurse suggested that we may have to do a C-section.  That was probably the only thing I didn't like about the whole process.  I felt like that statement was premature and I was not about to be ok with having a c-section.  Since I had not dilated to the point I needed to be, they suggested I begin laying on my sides.  I layed on one side for a little while, and then switched to the other side.  This was the trick!  Within no time, I was 10 centimeters dilated and it was time to push.  Once my doctor arrived, we began the process.  First, we practied pushing.  Once I did that once, I thought I was going to keep going, but the doctor wasn't aware of that.  So, I kept pushing and my husband looked at the doctor and said, "Is she still supposed to be pushing?"  The doctor was over getting his protective gear on while I was pushing.  He and the nurse both yelled, "No!"  And then I stopped pushing.  I got the point, lol.  Once we resumed, I pushed for about 20 minutes, until my baby's head came out.  The doctor asked me to stop pushing until he said to continue.  He wanted to clean Lincoln's mouth out, etc. before I pushed the rest of his body out.  Also, my mother informed me that the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and the doctor just cut it away.  The doctor never mentioned this to me, I imagine as to not make me nervous or scare me.  I kind of liked that.  He took care of the issue and went on like nothing was wrong.  While we were sitting there, I asked my husband what color Lincoln's hair was.  He said it was dark!  I didn't like that I couldn't see!!  I wanted to see my baby so badly.  Anyway, once everything was cleared, he told me to continue pushing until Lincoln's body came out.  Once I heard my baby cry for the first time, I began crying!  The doctor handed me my baby immediately.  That was very important to me.  I didn't have a birth plan, but one thing that I wanted was to hold my baby immediately after he was born.  I remember his skin touching mine, and just being in love immediately!  He was very purple, which I had already warned my husband about before we ever went to the hospital.  And....he was perfect.  He was beautiful.  He was healthy.  He was mine.  I could not have ever imagined loving anything the way that I love my son.  I think he had been laying on one side for an extended period of time, because he had one eye closed when he was born, and on that same side, his pinky toe kind of protruded out.  He ended up opening the other eye more and more until it was completely normal with the normal eye.  As far as his pinky toe, I had mixed feelings.  I didn't want him to ever be picked on about it, but I found myself sad when it worked itself away.  The more weight he gained, the more it looked normal, and now you would never know it ever protruded.  I loved that little, protruding pinky toe!  Anyway, Lincoln was born at 1:26 PM and weighed 5 lbs 9.6 oz.  After I got to hold him for a few minutes, my husband also held him.  They did everything else that they needed to do in the corner of the room that I delivered him in.  I really liked this because I had seen births before where the babies were taken out of the room and then brought back in.  He didn't leave my sight for a while.  Once they did their thing in the corner of the room and patched me up, they handed him back to me to breastfeed.  This was very important to me as well, in order to establish the breastfeeding relationship as soon as possible.

My sweet boy on his birth day!

Lincoln's first car ride!  You can see how tiny he was....his outfit was so big on him!  And to think, I was concerned that the outfit wouldn't fit him beforehand, thinking it would possibly be too little (based on the measurements I got from my doctor's visits).

Daddy driving us home!

These photos were taken 10 days after Lincoln was born.  I never knew I could love my husband as much as I do when I see him holding our child.

In a final note, I just wanted to say that I look back fondly on my birthing experience.  Yes, there was pain, yes there were sleepless nights (that still occur), but I wouldn't trade it for the world.  Now here we are (a year later)......Marlowe, party of 3!

September Favourites

(This post is a day late but let's forget about that shall we?)

Today I am here with my September favourites! The fact that September is almost over is so crazy to me, but on with the favourites!

The first is my earphones which are by Skullcandy. I go through earphones like no ones business, and these ones seem to be lasting the batter. Hence, a favourite!

The next thing is my new Cheap Monday glasses! I got these back in August and I have loved them so much ever since! I love the tortoise shell pattern and the shape of the glasses.

The next thing is a soft matte lip cream by Nyx. I wore this on a night out and absolutely adored it! It stays for ages on my lips and even though it is matte, it isn't drying. I'm definitely dying to try more of these.

A new found love for my old Wonderstruck perfume! I've been wearing this everyday to school and have just fallen back in love with it. It's definitely a nice change to my Juicy Coutour one!

The final beauty favourite is these fake eyelashes by Eylure. Usually I opt for thepre glued  lashes, but seeing as I wanted more dramatic lashes, I got these ones which come with adhesive. Honestly, I find them far easier to use than the pre glued ones and will definitely be using them again.

Last month I went to see Trainwreck with a friend of mine and found it absolutely hilarious! It wouldn't be extremely appropriate for younger viewers, but I would recommend it foranyone  else.

For my birthday I went to see The Scorch Trials with a few friends. I found it extremely different to the book series, but all in all the movie was amazing and I really enjoyed it.

So those are my September favourites! I hope you enjoyed this post and I'll chat to you in my next blog post.

To My Year Of 17

(I just loved the sunset that day)

Today, I have turned seventeen. Although this isn't a landmark age like eighteen, or twenty one or even sixteen, for me, a lot is going to happen during my time of being seventeen. Here are a few of my wishes for the age of seventeen.

A lot is going to happen while I'm seventeen. I'm going into my final year of secondary school, I'll have done my leaving cert, I'll hopefully have my drivers licence and I will also be starting university. Quite eventful!

(two of my best friends and I)

I wish to wear more skirts during my year of seventeen. Probably an unusual/random wish, but where I live, you don't really wear skirts unless you're going somewhere special or going out. Personally, I think this judgement is stupid and I'm going to start wearing skirts not because I need to dress up, but because I feel comfortable in them.

I also wish to blog more during my year of seventeen! I feel like I have somewhat upped my blogging game over the summer, and I hope to keep that up.

(another pretty sunset)

I want to work hard at school and get study focused. During my junior cert year, I did exactly this up until Easter and although my results were good (I got 5 A's and 5 B's), I still feel that if I hadn't of slacked off towards the end, my results would have been far better! During fifth year I felt overwhelmed with the workload and I was easily distracted, which I hope to shake during this year. Of course this year is far more important, so I just want to balance the right amount of work while also resting and looking after myself, as that is equally important in my opinion!

I also want to make the most of it. It'll be my final year of (legally) being a child, which is kinda scary for me. It'll be my year before university and living at home full time, so I want to appreciate the time I have with my family at home before I fly the nest.

(taken when I was in Mijas, Spain)

As I said above, I hopefully will have my drivers licence! I did my theory test and passed it at the start of the summer, which was a great feeling. As soon as I turn seventeen, I plan on getting my provisional licence and getting official licence, so I can have a little bit more of independence and not have to feel bad when my mam has to transport me everywhere!

I want to read more too. I think everyone knows that at some points, life just takes over and you forget to do the things you enjoy. For me, this is reading. Once I get into a good book, it's as if I am transported away from my usual surroundings and can live through the eyes of the protaganist. Such an amazing feeling, right?

All in all, I just want to have fun this year. Yes, this year will be serious, and I will have to take my studies seriously, but I also think that I can't be doing that 24/7.

Sixteen, you've been great.
But seventeen, now is our time to shine.

Lush Herbalism Review

I have decided, due to being back at school, that my blogging schedule from now on will be Sundays only (unless I perhaps magically find time to blog at another time, which I highly doubt).

Also, I am so thrilled to be shortlisted for the Blog Awards Ireland in the 'Best Youth Blog' category!! Public voting opens on September 7, so I would really appreciate if you, my lovely readers, would vote for me tomorrow!

When I went into the Lush shop near Grafton street in Dublin, I knew that I wanted one thing and one thing only: Herbalsim. After hearing glorious reviews from the likes of YouTubers Meghan Hughes and Maddi Bragg, I knew I wanted to try it.

When the man was testing the product on my hand, I found myself telling him more about it than him telling me (in his defence, my friends sister told me that Lush had recently brought on their Christmas staff, so he was probably new and had never even heard of Herbalism)! Then at the till, another shop assistant served me and as soon as he saw that I was buying Herbalism, he exclaimed "GUUUUURL, this is so good! I always remember the price because of Taylor Swifts new album." .
I just love Lush.

(I used this gif again, due to the fact that I have been super busy!)

It comes in the usual large black Lush pot, and for €19.89 you get quite a lot of product. The cleanser itself comes in green lumps, and in order to use it, you have to take a small lump and a tiny amount of water in the palm of your hand and massage it into a paste.

(Terrible post school selfie)

Once I have done this, I massage it into a paste onto my face. The rice bran in the cleanser acts as a light exfoliator which I love as it takes away any dead skin and leaves my face feeling polished. The cleanser also contains nettles, almond and rosemary, with the nettles giving it the bright green colour. I then wash it off with warm water, which although can take a bit of time to wash all of it off, it is definitely worth it in the long run.

I have been using this cleanser for a little bit over two weeks and I have to say I absolutely love it! I feel that it has helped to keep my acne at bay, my skin isn't as dry as it used to be, and it doesn't leave my face feeling tight like some cleansers can. Using this in combination with my Aveeno moisturiser, my skin is just feeling so much better, all thanks to this weird and wonderful cleanser!

All in all, I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who struggles with oily skin or combination skin. Although it is expensive, I feel the product will last a long time.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and I shall hopefully see you next Sunday (which is actually my birthday!).

It's Almost Fall Y'all

Even though it's still hot as hades outside, the fall merchandise has swarmed the shelves of clothing stores.  I find myself torn.  Yes, I want to buy that cute sweater and those new booties, but I can't wear them for a while.  So, in the spirit of fall, I thought I would do a throwback post with some past fall looks.  And in the meantime, I will sip on my pumpkin coffee and patiently await the cooler, crisp season.  Enjoy!

BTS: Beauty Essentials

Today I decided that I would do a beauty essentials post for back to school! I took a slightly different approach to how I displayed my images (just for fun!) to see how I like it.

And who knows! Perhaps I shall use this approach in future blog posts.

My first essential is that you invest in a good skin cleanser! I recently purchased 'Herbalism' from Lush due to good reviews, and trust me, they weren't wrong! This cleanser contains nettles, rosemary and almonds among other things. I've been finiding this is great for my skin as well as for taking off makeup, and I just know I'm going to be using this constantly during the school year! Expect a review to be on the way soon.

The next thing is a moisturiser. I usually take this moisturiser to school in case I get a dry patch on my face or if I have dry hands. This is a handy travel size and I also love using this when I get patches of eczema (sometimes due to stress, and we all know how stressful school can be).

Lip balms are a huge essential for me! On the left is a Kiko Kiss Balm, which I took to school last year on a regular basis. This is a nice lip balm as it gives a sheer pink colour, while also adding moisture to you lips. On the right is an intensive moisturiser from Blistex. I tend to only use this at morning and night as it is white in colour, but even lip balms such as Carmex are perfect as they save your chapped lips!

Dry shampoo is also a must, especially if you're running late and your hair is looking a tad off. I used this sporadically last year if I ever slept in and didn't have time to wash my hair (nasty).

The final thing is a powder. I realise that not everyone likes to wear makeup to school, and that is completely acceptable! But if like me, you like to wear a tiny bit, a powder is always a good start. This one from Bourjois is lovely as it has hydrating factors as well as elements that prevent shine. It is also quite compact, making it easy to take to school if needed.

I hope you enjoyed this post! Although I will be back to school next Wednesday, I still have another post that I would like to do before I'm finished with my back to school series for this year (how scary is that?).

See you then!

Back to School: Easy DIY Diary

So this year I shall be entering my final year of secondary school (woo) which means that it is going to be a year full of study and exams. Emotions and stress shall be running high, so why not document the horrificness of it all?

I saw a lot of cool, tumblr-esque note books and I really wanted to give it a try for myself!

What you will need:
  • Plain spiral notepad of your desired size
  • Glue gun or pritt stick (I used a glue gun as my glue stick went missing)
  • Tumblr-esque pictures of your choice
  • Scissors
  • Plain white paper
I recommend that while doing this that you try to stick to a theme. If you are unfamiliar with the world of Tumblr or Instagram, then you probably wouldn't know that different blogs or accounts use different types of pictures. I chose a slightly filtered theme with darker pictures for my notepad.

I then printed off the pictures and cut them out,

First off, I covered the notepad in white paper which I glued down using my hot glue gun.

After this, I roughly laid out where I wanted the pictures to go before I glued them.

Once I was sure where I wanted to glue down the pictures, I used my hot glue gun to secure them down.

And voila! I transformed a relatively boring notepad into a cute notepad where I can document my thoughts and feelings during the LC!

I hope you enjoyed this post and I shall chat to you in my next post on Saturday!
